There are two names in the headline of this post. More would be on there if there were more room.
Lots of Hawaii high school athletes had banner days last weekend in seven different varsity track and field meets across the state.
Let’s start with the two in the headline.
First, there’s Konawaena’s Caiya Hanks, who blitzed to victories in the 100-meter dash (12.59 seconds) and 200 (25.90). Both marks are highs among Hawaii high school girl athletes fo far this season.
Then, there’s Kamehameha’s Tatum Moku, who also notched 2022 Hawaii high marks in the girls pole vault (12 feet, 7 inches) and 15.52 in the 100 hurdles.
Kamehameha’s Tatum Moku has the top girls pole vault height in Hawaii in 2022 so far — 12 feet, seven inches. That’s five inches off the state meet record of 13-0. (Photos are courtesy of Sam Moku).
“My goal is to get anything over 13 feet,” Moku told Bedrock Sports Hawaii on Saturday while she was watching the Roosevelt Invitational. “I’m not going to limit myself.”
Moku is also looking to go past 17 feet (she’s at 16-10 in practice) in the long jump and wants to break 15 seconds in the 100 hurdles.
However, Moku’s main event is the pole vault and so she hasn’t worked on the other events much at practice yet.

In addition, Mid-Pacific’s Parker Wagnild nearly made this post’s headline by running to two Hawaii-best times for 2022 — 2:01.25 in the 800 and 4:09.78 in the 1,500. Wagnild now has the top 2022 times in three different events.
In 10 other instances last weekend, the top times and distances were achieved for Hawaii in 2022. That full list of 16 (exactly half of the events at a standard Hawaii track meet) new marks can be found below, along with the Hawaii state meet records (for comparative purposes) in all 32 events.
Among the other great overall performances last weekend were by Kauai’s Emma Burgess and Kalani’s Reece Kosaki, who were part of five winning events (see more on that below, too).
Also included below are many athletes who won more than one event at the seven meets.
