Campbell And ‘Iolani Move Up, Kapaa And Konawaena Enter Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s Football Top 10

The top four spots remained the same in the latest Bedrock Sports Hawaii high school football Top 10 released Tuesday — top dog Kamehameha followed in order by Saint Louis, Mililani and Kahuku.

Last weekend, the Warriors did not play, but the Crusaders, Trojans and Red Raiders all captured convincing wins.

After that, there was quite a shakeup. Campbell, idle last week after an opening rout of Farrington, rose two spots to No. 5, and ‘Iolani, also idle, climbed one spot to No. 6 due to its sterling 6-0 record.

Punahou took a big tumble, down two spots to No. 7 after falling flat in an elimination game against Saint Louis, 35-0.

Lahainaluna, with a season-opening shutout of Maui on the Valley Isle, kept a lock on its No. 8 spot, and two new teams entered the list — Kapaa at No. 9 and Konawaena at No. 10.

The Warriors from the Garden Isle, the favorites once again to win the KIF, are back in action this weekend against Kauai High, and fans around the state might get to see if they are deserving of this ranking or just another of the many who deserve to be on the outside looking in.

The Wildcats from the Big Isle made it in on on the strength of their 24-21 overtime upset of previous No. 10 and defending Division I state champion Hilo.

The biggest game this coming weekend is the ILH championship round opener — No. 1 Kamehameha vs. No. 2 and four-time defending state Open champion Saint Louis. If the Warriors win, they’ll clinch an Open state berth and the ILH championship. If the Crusaders win, another game between the two teams would be held the following weekend to decide a champion and the accompanying spot in the states.
