Two Hawaii wrestling state champions placed fourth on the mainland last weekend.
Punahou’s Justyce Mercado, the 145-pound state high school champion, took fourth place in the 145-pound junior division in the USA Wrestling Northwest Greco/Roman Regionals in Centralia, Washington.
At the same site, Mercado also placed sixth in the 145-pound junior division in the USA Wrestling Northwest Freestyle Regionals
In addition, Moanalua’s Joseph Lathwood — the state 120-pound champion — earned a fourth-place finish at the Northwest Freestyle Regionals’ 126-pound 16-and-under division, and he also took sixth place in the Greco-Roman competition.
Hawaii’s Eloise Woolsey Captures 14-And-Under 117-127 Freestyle Round-Round
Hawaii’s Eloise Woolsey went 3-0 to take first place in the 14-and-under division in the Northwest Freestyle Regional 117-127 round-robin.
Five other Hawaii wrestlers participated in one or the other or both Northwest events — Kai Simmons (Moanalua High), Jacob Enrico (Mililani High), Ryder Baptista, Teyah Cabinian and Jennifer Fauci.
