Hawaii’s Carissa Moore Surprises Herself: “Wait, really? Two (Wins) In a Row. Three This Season. That’s Pretty Cool”

—–

Carissa Moore is known for winning, but sometimes she even surprises herself with what she is doing out there in the water.

The joy emanating from the Hawaii surfer was evident in a World Surf League pre-contest interview, with the Surf City El Salvador Pro set to begin Friday.

Moore is No. 1 in the WSL rankings and trying for a fifth world title to add to the championships she captured in 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2021.

It appears that Moore is having so much fun (and success) that she’s not fully realizing that those wins are adding up.

Check out the following clip from the pre-contest interview with Moore from the WSL.

Of particular note is this comment:

“I don’t remember the last time I won three events in a season. It’s been a while, so I was kind of shocked at myself after the Surf Ranch. I was like, ‘Wait, really. Two (wins) in a row. Three this season. That’s pretty cool.”

For the record, the last time Moore won three contests in a season was in 2015, when she won four times.

The year started for Moore with a win in the Billabong Pro Pipeline. After two fifth-place finishes and a ninth, she won the two most recent events on the championship tour — the Margaret River Pro and the Surf Ranch Pro.

Three more contests will follow (in Rio de Janeiro, at J-Bay in South Africa, and at Teahupoo in Tahiti) before the WSL finals in September.
