On Eve Of Football State Tournament, Two Teams Whose Seasons Are Done Make It Into Bedrock’s Power 5s

—–

There are 16 teams who have qualified to play in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships that start Friday.

In a pre-tournament survey of voting media personnel, two teams who didn’t qualify for states are in this week’s Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s Power 5s.

Kapolei (6-5), who just missed out on qualifying for states in a 49-42 loss to Campbell in the OIA Open third-place game in WEEK 13 two weekends ago, checked in at No. 5 in the Open rankings. The Hurricanes passed Saint Louis (4-5), which lost to Punahou for the third time this season, 24-8, in the WEEK 13 ILH championship game.

In the Division II rankings, Kamehameha-Hawaii (10-2) — despite a 19-9 season-ending loss to Honokaa in the BIIF D-II title game two weekends ago — did not fall completely out of the Power 5s, dropping only two spots to No. 5.

In other Power 5s movement this week, OIA D-I champion Waipahu (9-1) passed MIL champ Lahainaluna (9-0) into the No. 2 D-I spot. Also in D-I, BIIF champ Konawaena (9-1) moved up one place to No. 4 and ahead of Aiea.

Those BIIF D-II champion Dragons (10-1) climbed from unranked to No. 3.

The Power 5 rankings heading into the state tournament (WEEK 15) follow. After that, you will find Bedrock’s Consensus Top 10 and the full schedule for the rest of the season.
