Fargo Nationals: Hawaii’s Tristan Nitta Wrestles To All-American Status

—–

Hawaii wrestler Tristan Nitta placed seventh at the nationals in Fargo, North Dakota, on Sunday.

By placing in the top eight, Nitta earned All-American status. The 2023 Mililani graduate, who won the 102-pound high school state championship in the spring, is headed to Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa, in the fall.

Nitta competed in the Junior Women’s Freestyle 100-pound division.

“I’m proud of myself no matter what,” Nitta texted Bedrock Sports Hawaii. “I had a goal … maybe it wasn’t reached, but I can say I actually enjoyed my time wrestling. I went out there fearless and put whatever I had left on the mat, my all. It was truly an amazing experience just to be there in that moment and just from this little time I feel like I can do so much more and improve in many areas, and it just made me more hungry to get better.
“I know I put in the work to be here, so it was fun being on the mat. It takes courage to be able to come out here and battle. I’m proud of everyone and how hard they all fought. Becoming an All-American is not easy. Every time I had to look to improve every situation I was in and finish the match with a good attitude. Fargo was truly an amazing experience and I’m so glad I was able to go as my last high school tournament. I’m excited for what the future has planned for me.”
The official name of the Fargo tournament is the U.S. Marine Corps 16U and Junior Nationals.
Below are Nitta’s results along with results of Hawaii’s other girls competitors over the weekend at Fargo. (Note: You will also find below a list of Hawaii’s boys competing this week at Fargo in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Bedrock plans to follow up with their results.)
