15 Top Marks For 2023 Achieved At Season-Ending Track And Field State Championships

With help from the wind last Saturday at the season-ending state championships, Hawaii’s high school track and field athletes surpassed 15 of the best marks for 2023.

The following athletes zoomed to No. 1 in their chosen events this spring (and remember, these times and distances are wind-aided):

>> Hawaii Baptist’s Shane Kawakami-Williams ran the 100 in 10.63 seconds. Previous best: 10.70 by Baldwin’s Joseph Randolph.

>> Baldwin’s Joseph Randolph ran a 21.35 in the 200. Previous best: 21.89 by Randolph.

>> Kawakami-Williams ran a 48.87 in the 400. Previous best: 48.95 by Kawakami-Williams.

>> Moanalua’s Joshua Sanders ran a 39.99 in the 300 hurdles. Previous best: 40.20 by Saint Louis’ Sytyn Lasconia.

>> Saint Louis’ Lasconia, William Reed, Kanoa Monteilh and Trech Kekahuna ran a 42.79 in the 4×100 relay. Previous best: 42.93 by Saint Louis’ Bryson Pataray, Reed, Monteilh and Michael Joshua Price.

>> Mililani’s Cal’von Baker pole vaulted 6 feet, 6 inches. Previous best: 6-5 by Baker.

>> King Kekaulike’s Ja’lyn Deichert ran a 12.13 in the 100. Previous best: 12.32 by Deichert.

>> ‘Iolani’s Mia Shepard ran a 25.09 in the 200. Previous best: 25.38 by Shepard.

>>  Shepard ran a 57.13 in the 400. Previous best: 57.16 by Shepard.

>> Kamehameha’s Tatum Moku ran a 14.39 in the 100 hurdles. Previous best: 14.64 by Moku.

>> Punahou’s Nala Stojadinovic ran a 45.15 in the 300 hurdles. Previous best: 45.41 by Moku.

>> Mililani’s Haylee Jarvis, Ciara Conley, Ayanna Rivera-Gaines and Deiona Carter ran a 49.08 in the 4×100 relay. Previous best: 49.52 by King Kekaulike’s Lola Richardson, Ruby Kessler, Deichert and Kalena Akinaka.

>> Kaiser’s Valo Sopoaga threw the shot put 39-5. Previous best: 39-0 by Sopoaga.

>> Le Jardin’s Charli Kennedy accomplished a state meet record 5-6 in the high jump. Previous best: 5-4 by multiple athletes, including Kennedy.

>> Roosevelt’s Tiana Burgess covered 38-6 in the triple jump. Previous best: 38-3.5 by Burgess.
