3 Season Opening High School Football Games On Maui Canceled Due To Wildfires

—–

Devastating wildfires on Maui have caused the cancellation of three high school football opening games this weekend, according to multiple news reports:

>> Edison (Huntington Beach, California) vs. Baldwin, at War Memorial Stadium (Friday)

>> Hilo at Lahainaluna (Saturday)

>> Honokaa at King Kekaulike (Saturday)

As of Wednesday evening, there were reports of six people who died from the wildfires, which has destroyed many buildings in Lahaina.

According to reports, Edison, from Huntington Beach, California, was planning to fly Thursday for a two-weekend stay that also was to include a now-canceled game next Friday at Lahainaluna.

The Maui Interscholastic League’s two other football teams are scheduled to play on other islands this weekend — Kamehameha-Maui at Castle on Friday, and Maui High at Nanakuli on Saturday. The latest word is that those two games are still on.
