8 League Football Titles And 5 State Berths Are On The Line In WEEK 13; Plus The Latest Power 5s

—–

At least four of the final five berths into the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships will be earned in WEEK 13 of the season on Friday and Saturday.

The winners of the following games will get in:

Open Division
>> Kapolei (6-4) vs. Campbell (6-3)
Division I
>> Hilo (6-3) at Konawaena (8-1)
>> Honokaa (9-1) at Kamehameha-Hawaii (10-1)
Division II
>> Kamehameha-Maui (3-6) at King Kekaulike (3-6)

It’s possible that the other vacant state berth will be wrapped up as well, and that will happen if Punahou (7-1) beats Saint Louis (4-4) to take the ILH Open title. If the Crusaders prevail, another game between the two teams for the league championship will be held the following week.

Eight Championship Games On Tap

Including the Punahou vs. Saint Louis game, there are eight league title games in WEEK 13.

The seven others are:

OIA Open
>> Mililani (7-3) vs. Kahuku (9-2)
OIA D-I
>> Aiea (8-2) vs. Waipahu (8-1)
OIA D-II
>> Kaiser (6-3) vs. Nanakuli (8-1)
BIIF D-I
>> Hilo (6-3) at Konawaena (8-1)
BIIF D-II
>> Honokaa (9-1) at Kamehameha-Hawaii (10-1)

Kamehameha-Hawaii, Waimea And Kaiser Rise In Bedrock’s Power 5s

Kamehameha-Hawaii is back in the Power 5s rankings.

The Warriors (10-1), who have the most wins of any team in the state and were high up in the Power 5s earlier this season, checked in at No. 3 in the D-II rankings after avenging their only loss with a 20-7 home victory over Honokaa last Thursday.

With the loss, the Dragons (9-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and from the Power 5s.

Those two teams meet again on Saturday with the BIIF championship on the line.

Waimea (6-1) and Kaiser (6-3) also made a move up in the D-II list. The Menehunes went from No. 3 to No. 2 after tripping Kauai 7-0 on Saturday, and the Cougars went from from No. 5 to No. 4 after rallying from 17 points down to top Pearl City (7-3) in overtime, 31-24, on Friday.

After the OIA D-II semifinal loss, the Chargers slid to No. 5.

All but one of the positions in the Open Division and D-I remained the same as the last time the rankings were released two weeks ago. The only change was Punahou moving ahead of Mililani into the No. 2 spot in the Open.
