Kapolei made the biggest splash this week in the Bedrock Sports Hawaii Power 5s.
Pretty much ignored by voters in the past few weeks, the Hurricanes improved to 5-0 by coming back from a 17-point deficit to beat Moanalua 42-17 last weekend.
That win, coupled with Saint Louis’ 43-19 loss to Punahou, boosted Kapolei into the No. 5 slot in Bedrock’s Open Division football rankings.
A good showing (a win or a close game) this weekend would likely keep the Hurricanes in the rankings next week, too. On Friday, Kapolei puts its undefeated record on the line against No. 1 Kahuku (5-1), whose only loss came to national No. 1 St. John Bosco on Saturday, 34-7.
After their loss, the Crusaders fell to 2-3 and out of the rankings.
Waipahu Vaults To No. 2 In Division I
The Waipahu Marauders (4-1), after their last-minute 20-14 win over Aiea (4-2) on Saturday, jumped up two places to No. 2 in Division I.
After their super close loss, Na Alii tumbled two places to No. 4.
Waimea Overtakes Nanakuli In Division II
Waimea (5-0) did not play last week, but still passed Nanakuli into the No. 1 spot in Division II.
Those Nanakuli Golden Hawks (4-1) meet Pearl City (5-1) on Friday in a first-place OIA D-II showdown.
Kaimuki (3-2), the winner of three games in a row, nearly made it into the D-II Power 5s. The Bulldogs visit Kaiser (2-3) on Saturday in a game that has OIA D-II playoff implications.
Voters still liked King Kekaulike (2-3) at No. 5 in D-II. Na Alii’s three losses are to No. 1 Waimea as well as two Division I league foes — Lahainaluna and Maui.
