Kamehameha Wrestlers Sweep ILH Boys And Girls Dual Meet Championships

Kamehameha proved it’s still the powerhouse to get past on the way to the top of ILH boys and girls wrestling.

The Warriors won the league’s dual meet championships on Saturday, Feb. 4, at their home gym. Now, their eyes are set on the state tournament titles at BYUH’s Cannon Activities Center on Feb. 24 and 25.

The boys final was by no means a blowout. Rival Saint Louis showed they were there to compete hard. In the end through, the Warriors prevailed 51-27.

Despite the loss, the Crusaders took three pressure-packed individual matches, with Kaihi Cobb-Adams winning by fall in 5:03 over Kamehameha’s Akoni Kaaialii, Zion Amerson tipping the Warriors’ Kawika Naweli 9-7, and Connor Creech pinning Kamehameha’s Traven Wailehua in 1:43.

The girls title match was a lot less close, with Kamehameha topping PAC-5 66-6.

“The teams did a great job on all levels,” Warriors coach Dave Chew said. “Still a lot of work to do. Everything before championships is practice. We are thankful for the tremendous support from our faculty, athletic department and families. We are both humbled and excited for the opportunity to compete.”
