Tatum Moku’s improvement is off the charts this season in the pole vault.
The Kamehameha senior pole vaulted 13 feet, 7 inches at the ILH Meet No. 4 at Punahou on Friday. Over the past few days, that result was waiting validation. However, it has since become official, according to Athletic.net.
For comparative purposes, Moku’s 13-7 is:
>> the best ever (yet again) by a high school girls athlete from Hawaii (and believed to be the best ever at any level by a Hawaii-raised female competitor)
>> 5 inches better than the 13-2 she accomplished on April 1
>> 6 inches better than the 13-1 she vaulted at the state championship meet in 2022
“I’m really excited to see what the next few final meets hold,” Moku wrote in a message to Bedrock Sports Hawaii. “I’ve been working really hard to get where I am and it’s gotten me really far. I wanted to go all out for my senior year and really get as much out of this sport as I can. I’m super thankful for all the coaches I’ve had over the years who have guided me and made me who I am today. I’m super grateful for my teammates who support and push me to be the best I can. I am also grateful to represent Hawaii in a way I never imagined. Being a Native Hawaiian woman from Hawaii excelling in this sport pushed me to move forward. I want to be inspiration to the future female track athletes in Hawaii and be a role model. I hope I’ve inspired them to follow their dreams and that anything is possible.”
