Le Jardin sophomore Charli Kennedy set the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships girls meet record in the high jump Saturday.
Kennedy jumped 5 feet, 6 inches, a half-inch higher than the previous mark of 5-5.50 set by Kahuku’s Natataha Kai in 1999, to win the event.
Kennedy came on the scene as a contender late this season, getting to 5-4 twice in April. It looked to be a four-person battle for the crown Saturday, with three others having done 5-4 this season — ‘Iolani’s Lexi Fujita and Alexis King and Kalaheo’s Olivia Holmquist.
But the day belonged to Kennedy, with King and Holmquist and Hawaii Prep’s Talia Threlkeld all hitting the 5-2 mark.
Preliminaries and some finals of other events were held on Friday, with the rest of the finals set to wrap up Saturday.
