NOTE: This post has been edited to correct errors in the Open and Division I OIA playoff matchups.
No. 8 Konawaena took the BIIF Division I regular-season title with its 61-0 win on the road against Keaau on Friday night.
The Wildcats, who are the defending D-I state champions, will play either Keaau or Hilo in the upcoming league championship game.
Elsewhere in WEEK 10 Friday games:
>> Aiea and Radford clinched playoff spots in OIA D-I with wins. Na Alii topped Nanakuli 29-8. The Rams dropped Castle 33-24. The Golden Hawks and Knights were eliminated from postseason contention.
>> Roosevelt joined OIA D-II regular-season champ Pearl City in that league’s playoffs, clinching a spot with a 35-14 home victory over Waialua. Two more playoff spots will be determined, with Kaiser, Kaimuki, Kalaheo and Kalani in the running.
>> No. 5 Saint Louis finished a two-game regular-season sweep over No. 7 Kamehameha by tripping the Warriors 38-21 at the Farrington High field.
OIA Playoff Picture Gets Clearer
The OIA playoffs are expected to start next weekend and the official schedule is expected soon.
Here’s what it will look like.
OIA Open Division
All six teams make the playoffs, with the top squad in each group (No. 1 Kahuku and No. 2 Mililani; see standings below) getting a first-round bye.
Next week, Waianae visits No. 3 Campbell for the right to play B group winner Mililani the following week.
Also, Moanalua visits Kapolei with the winner facing A group first-place Kahuku the following week.
In two more weeks, the survivors will be in the championship game.
OIA D-I
Six of the eight teams make the playoffs, with a format similar to the Open.
Next week, Aiea plays at Kailua, with a matchup against A group first-place Farrington the following week awaiting the winner.
Also, Radford visits Leilehua for the right to move on to play against B group winner Waipahu.
Again, the teams left standing meet for the title in two weeks.
OIA D-II
The format is the same as it’s been for years. Four of the eight teams make the postseason for the semifinals leading up to the title game. Two more teams will qualify and the order won’t be set until the regular season ends next week.
