Waimea won a defensive battle against Kapaa 7-3 on Saturday at the Baptiste Sports Complex, the Warriors’ home field.
The Menehunes (4-0, 2-0 KIF) positioned themselves as top Division II state contenders with the victory over the Warriors (1-3, 1-1), who won the D-II state title a year ago and moved up to the D-I classification this year.
In a real close one on Oahu, Aiea needed two second-half touchdowns to get past Kailua 13-7 at the Radford High field.
Na Alii (4-1, 2-0), who won the OIA D-I championship a year ago, are working to repeat and get back to states. The Surfriders (1-2-1, 1-1) proved they can contend in that highly competitive league.
Also on Saturday, there was a biggie going on in Ewa, where Kahuku slogged in the mud for a 16-6 OIA Open Division win over Campbell (3-2, 1-2). It was the 15th win in a row for the Red Raiders (5-0, 3-0) dating back to last year.
