Baldwin Sprinter Joseph Randolph Whizzes To Tip-Top Times In The 100 And 200 Dashes; Easter Weekend Track And Field Roundup

—–

There is no real name for it, so Bedrock Sports Hawaii will call it the “Tip-Top Times.”

Baldwin’s Joseph Randolph, perhaps, ran the best Hawaii high school 100- and 200-meter dashes ever last Thursday in the Kamakea Track and Field Meet at War Memorial Stadium.

The key word is PERHAPS.

That’s because no overall records are kept.

Sure, most (but not all) meet records are kept, but Hawaii’s real benchmarks are the time and distance records that can be set while competing in by far the biggest meet — the Island Movers/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Track and Field State Championships, which will be held this year May 13-14 at Kamehameha’s Kunuiakea Stadium.

One case in point of a state meet record not being the best mark ever comes in the pole vault. Bubba McLean’s 15 feet, 3 inches for St. Anthony is the best ever at the state meet. But J. Kai Yamafuhi’s 16-0 — while nine inches better — has no official title attached to it other than it’s likely the best ever in Hawaii at any level.

Randolph was on fire, recording times of 10.61 in the 100 and 21.62 in the 200. Both are faster than the state meet records of 10.63 by Damien’s Christian Padron in 2017 and 21.67 by Punahou’s Andrei Iosivas in 2018.

Nine other top times for distances for 2022 in Hawaii were overtaken. The best marks for all 32 events (16 boys and 16 girls) are listed below along with all state meet records (for comparative purposes). In addition, double winners from the six varsity track and field events statewide are also listed.

In the OIA Eastern and Western Division championship meets, the team winners were the Kalani boys and girls, the Mililani girls and the Kapolei boys. OIA Eastern and Western final team standings can also be found below.
