Big Championship Wins For Damien, Waipahu And Roosevelt

—–

AJ Tuifua threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Nalu Chinen-Zablan with 4:25 left to catapult Damien to a 42-37 win over ‘Iolani for the ILH D-I title and a spot into the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships that start next week.

The Monarchs’ win at the Radford High field, which ended the Raiders’ season, was one of three championships won on Oahu Friday night.

At the Mililani High field, the OIA Division I and II title games were held. In D-I, Waipahu tripped Farrington 48-26. In D-II, Roosevelt upended Kaimuki 34-22. All four of those teams have already qualified for states.

Only one state tournament berth is up for grabs and it will be determined Saturday night, when No. 6 Kapolei meets No. 3 Campbell at the R0osevelt High field in the OIA Open third-place game.

One more championship game is set for Saturday night, with No. 2 Mililani taking on No. 1 and two-time defending state Open champion Kahuku for the OIA Open title. Both teams have already secured a spot at states.
