As usual, lots of players put up great numbers last week in Hawaii high school football.
But the first Bedrock Sports Hawaii Player of the Week honors in history go to a kicker.
Yes, make a clutch 26-yard field goal with 1:25 left to win? You try it.
Lasse Stolten did it for Waialua in a 15-13 victory over McKinley on Saturday. It gave coach Gary Wirtz a victory in his first game as head coach, and it spoiled former Punahou head man Kale Ane’s bid to be a winner in his first game as coach of the Tigers.
Stolten also had a 36-yard field goal and an extra point in the game.
According to HawaiiPrepWorld.com, Stolten is a sophomore exchange student from Germany and was playing a football game for the first time.
“I’ve been here three months,” he told reporter Paul Honda. “I thought, I’ve got to make this for the team. It was a struggle, but also, like I’m very proud of this team and I’m going to make it for them.
