Farrington linebacker Anelu Lafaele went on YouTube live Tuesday at noon to announce his college football commitment to Wisconsin.
The announcement was brought to you by 247sports.com. That website ranks Lafaele as the 21st ranked edge rusher in the nation and a four-star recruit.
Previously, Lafaele had whittled his choices to four schools. The three other finalists were Arizona State, Washington and Hawaii.
“It’s been fun,” said the 6-foot-3, 222-pound Lafaele about the recruiting process. “It’s tiring and I’ve been traveling a lot, but overall a great experience. Thank you to God for blessing with me with the opportunity to play college football.”
Lafaele also thanked his parents, who were seated next to him on a boat offshore with a picturesque background.
The way he announced his commitment was unique. Four friends were at the back of the boat wearing hats of the four possible college choices. One by one, Lafaele pushed them into the ocean, leaving Wisc0nsin.
In the offseason, Lafaele transferred from Saint Louis to Farrington for his senior year of high school football.
Three recruiting news websites (247sports, Rivals and On3) all predicted Lafaele would pick Wisconsin.
Here is the YouTube video of Lafaele’s announcement:
Lafaele had offers from 20 Division I FBS schools. Aside from his final four, they were Arizona, BYU, California, Colorado, Liberty, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon State, San Diego State, Tennessee, Texas State, UNLV, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Washington State.
Earlier Tuesday, Lafaele posted a happy birthday tweet to his mom:
