One of the main forces so far for the Farrington Governors football team is senior running back Sitani Mikaele, who is averaging 10.2 yards per carry and put up 209 yards rushing with TD runs of 48, 80 and 17 in a 40-0 victory over Nanakuli last Friday.
For that performance, Mikaele is Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s outstanding football player of WEEK 3.
A two-way force while also playing linebacker/edge, Mikaele is a transfer from Rancho Cucamonga in California.
“Sitani is a student of the game,” Govs coach Daniel Sanchez messaged Bedrock Sports Hawaii on Thursday. “He asks the right questions and has the right work ethic and he pushes others to work equally as hard.”
The buzz is that the Govs (2-0) are going to be a solid contender in OIA Division I (middle tier) this season. They face a major challenge on Friday at home against two-time defending Open Division (top tier) state champion Kahuku. Those Red Raiders are already 3-0 and with a No. 1 state ranking, they have their eyes on a third straight state title.
