Four Hawaii youth wrestlers — Analu Woode, Kaiulani Kekahuna, Ehukai Kekahuna and Layla Pasion — nearly became champions at the Reno Worlds wrestling tournament last weekend in Reno, Nevada.
Woode, a member of Golden Back Wrestling, was the runner-up in the 12-and-under boys 84-pound class.
Pasion, meanwhile, took second in the 9-under girls 50-pound category.
Kaiulani Kekahuna of Team Hawaii Aloha earned second in the 9-and-under girls 75-pound division, and sister Ehukai placed second in the 7-and-under girls 40-pound division.
The following Hawaii wrestlers also placed in the top six:
>> Aukai Woode of Golden Back Wrestling placed third in 8-and-under boys at 46-pounds.
>> Nahenahe Kalamau of Team Hawaii Aloha placed third in 12-and-under girls at 120 pounds.
>> Willow Eve Kaupe of Team Pride Academy placed fourth in 7-and-under girls at 100 pounds.
>> Raeghen Rivera of Team Hawaii Aloha placed fifth in 7-and-under girls at 45 pounds.
>> Johnny Whitford of Team Pride Academy placed fifth in 10-and-under boys at 80 pounds.
>> Presley Sandobal of Team Pride Academy placed fifth in 12-and-under girls at 73 pounds.
In addition, the Kekahuna girls, Pasion, Kalamau and Rivera made up Team Hawaii Aloha’s 9-and-under squad that placed second in the team competition.
Team Hawaii Aloha’s 9-under squad earned second place in the Reno Worlds team competition.
More than 3,000 wrestlers competed in the event in the various age and weight classes.
