—–

Hawaii teams got off to an 0-2 start against squads from the mainland on Friday.

California’s Long Beach Poly, ranked No. 50 nationally by MaxPreps, visited the Big Island, and after falling behind to Konawaena, the Jackrabbits took over in the second half for a 60-28 win.

The Wildcats, the defending state Division I champion, will begin their BIIF season next Saturday at Waiakea, looking to get in the win column.

In the other game involving a mainland team in Hawaii Friday night, California’s Villa Park broke open a close game in the early going to upend Damien 37-13 at the Farrington High field.

The only league contest on Friday came in OIA Division II, with Kalani upending Waialua 20-9 at the Kaiser High field.

The highly anticipated matchup for the Cane Knife Trophy happened in Waipahu, with visiting Campbell from the Open Division pulling away after halftime for a 62-24 victory.

The Division I Marauders led three times in the game, 13-7, 21-14 and 27-21.
