Two Hawaii players who train and compete at 808 Futsal in Kapolei were part of Team USA’s successful tour of games in Argentina earlier this month.

Mylee Nguyễn and Jordynn Roberts played for Team USA’s 2010 (birth year) team, and it was a special time in their lives.

“It was a good experience and it was different from the U.S.,” said Nguyen, who is a fixo (defender). “I played against different people from another country and got to train with the Boca Juniors and Racing Club’s coach and also got to tour their indoor and outdoor stadium. I hope I have the opportunity to represent 808 Futsal, Hawaii and the U.S. next year.”

Team USA went 2-1-1 in four games. The squad tied Argentinos Juniors 3-3, defeated Racing Club 3-2 and C.A. All Boys 8-2, and then lost to Ferro 3-1. The games were held at four places – the Argentinos Juniors Stadium, the Estadio de Racing Club, the All Boys Club, and the Estadio Ferro Carril Oeste.

Roberts, a pivot (attacker) who recently moved from Hawaii to Florida, scored four goals overall.

“Going to Argentina was a great learning experience and fun,” she said. “We got to play in some of the country’s top futbol/futsal clubs, facing older girls, and able to still succeed as an individual and team. I saw how growing up playing soccer in Argentina is so much different from the U.S. and the opportunities we are given not to take for granted.”

808 Futsal is located in Kapolei in the Campbell Industrial Park at 1010 Munu St.
