In a super close match between two 195-pound league contenders, Saint Louis’ Blaze Holani edged Punahou’s Will Straton, 7-6.
PAC-5 sophomore Xander Erolin, top, shown wrestling when he was in the Intermediate level, won three varsity matches on Friday at Mid-Pacific.
In another interesting battle, this one at 152 pounds, ‘Iolani’s Kai Yawata topped Punahou’s Justyce Mercado by fall at 5;50.
Also, Saint Louis’ Boston Opetaia opened his season after returning from an injury by beating Damien’s Jensen Tanele at 182 pounds by fall in 0:59. Opetaia placed second at states in 2020 at 170 pounds.
