‘Iolani And Saint Louis II Also Grab Weekend Football Victories

Saint Louis’ four-time reigning state championship team’s 41-23 victory over Punahou was the big Hawaii high school football story of the weekend, but two other teams also chalked up wins in Interscholastic League of Honolulu games.

‘Iolani won its fourth straight game by dispatching PAC-5 47-0, and Saint Louis II (a secondary Crusaders varsity team) upended Damien 34-14.

‘IOLANI 47, PAC-5 0

Brody Bantolina rushed for 93 yards and a TD for the Raiders (4-0, 1-0 ILH Division I) in the featured game at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.

Asher Matsui was a terror on defense for the Raiders, coming up with four tackles for loss among his 14 overall. He also had an interception and two pass breakups. Mason Mizuta and Stirling Sakashita also came up with interceptions for ‘Iolani.

The ‘Iolani defense held the Wolfpack (0-3, 0-2 ILH D-II) to 92 scrimmage yards. Chad Schmidt was among the PAC-5 standouts with 86 all-purpose yards, including a 61-yard kickoff return.

Defensively, the Wolfpack’s Daymian Lapitan led the way with 13 tackles.

Saint Louis II 34, Damien 14

Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw three touchdown passes to Kache Kaio to lead the Crusaders (1-0, 0-0 ILH D-II) past the Monarchs (2-2, 0-1 ILH D-I) in the early game at Aloha Stadium.

Chevas Gregory Jr. rushed for 67 yards with two TDs for Saint Louis II, which finally got into game action for the first time in 2021.

Sagapolutele completed 30 of his 47 passes for 336 yards, including 172 on nine connections with Kato.

Defensively, the Crusaders picked off four Damien passes — two by TJ Setik and one each by Zanden Willis and Brayton Correa.

The Monarchs’ Sylas Alaimalo rushed for 91 yards and a TD. He also passed for 38 yards, including a TD strike to Kamalii Labanon.

Labanon added 10 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense, and teammate Kahiau Young had 15 tackles.
