Kahuku Linebacker Liona Lefau Whittles Choices Down To 8

What a guy, Liona Lefau.

A few weeks ago, the Kahuku linebacker tweeted that he would soon be dropping his top eight college choices on social media.

Bedrock Sports Hawaii messaged Lefau to make sure he alerted us when he did so.

Today, that message came in.

The dude who was the heart of the Red Raiders’ defense en route to the Hawaii Open Division state championship last season is only a junior, so he’ll be around to try for a second Red Raiders championship in a row this fall.

Lefau, who is 6 feet 1 and 210 pounds, has 22 offers from Division I FBS colleges.

And these are the eight he is seriously considering:

BYU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, USC, Utah and Washington.

Lefau is ranked N0. 181 by 247Sports.com in its Top 247 players around the nation from the Class of 2023. He’s also the 15th-ranked linebacker.

Lefau also sent this tweet to Bedrock Sports Hawaii this morning. The ticker on “likes” is rising fast — already 360.

Lefau’s other offers are from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Hawaii, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, Utah State, Virginia, Washington State and Wisconsin.

Taking a wild guess, Bedrock Sports Hawaii ranks USC as Lefau’s top school, judging by the flavor of his social media tweets.

Snippets from Lefau on the eight schools from 247Sports in an article this morning:

>> BYU: “Always liked BYU. I am also LDS, so that’s another reason I like it there.”

>> Michigan: “I was amazed by their College Football Playoff title run this past year.”

>> Oklahoma: “Oklahoma was on TV many times when I was growing up so I know they’ve been a top-dog program for a while. I never got to visit there yet, but I am planning on it.”

>> Oregon: “The coaches like how I can move around and they’ve said I can play what (2021 Butkus Award semifinalist) Noah Sewell is playing if I come in and work hard.”

>> Texas: “I loved my time in Austin when I went up last summer. It was good vibes and I liked coach Steve Sarkisian as well.”

>> USC: “I love the location, of course, and how strong the Polynesian pipeline there is at SC. I feel like they’re going in the right direction and they can be at the top again sooner than later.””

>> Utah: “I’ve always loved Utah and how they develop their athletes. They are a team that is producing NFL talent every year on the defensive side.”

>> Washington: “I visited the campus before and I liked it. I want to see what the new coaching staff is doing, but they sound like they’re going in a good direction.”
