Kaiser QB Easton Yoshino Ends High School Career Among Hawaii’s Greats

One can only imagine what Easton Yoshino could have done had COVID-19 not knocked out the whole 2020 Hawaii high school football season.

Despite that, Yoshino stands among Hawaii’s top quarterbacks in yards and touchdowns after playing three seasons as Kaiser’s starter. He finished up his high school career on Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium on Kauai in a 48-7 loss to Waimea in the Division II first round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships.

As Yoshino performances go, it was a typical outing stats-wise — 22-for-39 for 250 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

This season in 11 games for the Cougars (6-5), Yoshino’s line reads: 231-for-379 for 3,092 yards, 35 TDs and 11 interceptions.

And now for the good stuff, his career stats: 511-for-872 for 7,309 yards, 84 TDs and 31 interceptions.

“It means a lot to me,” Yoshino told Bedrock Sports Hawaii on Monday morning. “I’ve worked super hard for it at practice and everything. I give a lot of credit to my parents. My dad pushed me hard when I was a kid and he continues to push me hard. I’m grateful for that. I’m also grateful for my teammates. Without the up-front blocking and the receivers catching the ball and running good routes, none of this happens.

It’s quite a list of names (see below) on Hawaii’s all-time lists that Yoshino is now part of. He ranks sixth in yardage and tied for third in touchdowns.

“It’s an honor to be mentioned with those guys who are considered the greats,” Yoshino said. “It’s great seeing my name up there.”

Yoshino plans to play college football and is thinking about going somewhere in the Western U.S.

He’s been in talks with two Division I schools (one FBS and one FCS) and there are many D-II possibilities.

  • Easton is impressive not only for the amazing stats, but also for his calm and civility on and off the field!

    • Judy Sobin: Yes, he is a great kid. IMO, I think Easton will go really far and some coach is going to be extra happy they got him.

  • The statistic about the all time touchdowns list is incorrect. Former Konawaena qb from 2014-2017 Austin Ewing had 93 passing touchdowns across his career, stats are on scoring live for verification

    • Thanks for letting us know. Will be verified and fixed.

  • Austin Ewing also had 7481 passing yards
