Konawaena QB Keoki Alani Breaks De Facto Hawaii TD Passes Record*

—–

Konawaena quarterback Keoki Alani and his skyrocketing passing numbers show no signs of slowing down.

As a matter of fact, he now has more touchdown passes than any other quarterback in Hawaii history.

Konawaena QB Keoki Alani.

It’s not a record, per se, because no official career yardage records are kept for the whole state.

Let’s call it a record with an asterisk.

The closest thing to anything official is Hawaii Prep World’s record book, but that is only for the island of Oahu and does not include Alani’s Wildcats or any other neighbor island teams through the years. It is possible, but highly unlikely that any other neighbor island QB has thrown for as many TDs as Alani.

In a 77-0 win over Kealakehe on Thursday night, Alani passed for seven TDs to make it 120 in his career, surpassing the highest Oahu total known previously — current University of Hawaii head coach Timmy Chang’s 113 for Saint Louis in the late 1990s.

Alani also threw for 268 yards on Thursday, boosting his career total to 8,557, which is more than the second player on HPW’s Oahu list — Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa (now with the Miami Dolphins), who threw for 8,158 late last decade.

Tops for passing yardage on HPW’s list is Mililani’s Dillon Gabriel — now starring for the sixth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners — with 9,848. Gabriel, with half a season and the postseason remaining — has a chance to climb into the NCAA all-time passing Top 10s in yardage and TDs.

Alani, who led the Wildcats to the Division I state title a year ago, has completed 622 of 907 passes (69 percent) in his career. He has the BIIF championship game and at least one state tournament game remaining.

“Keoki has been great for us,” Konawaena coach Brad Uemoto told Bedrock Sports Hawaii. “He’s matured in making decisions, and another year in the offense has allowed him to really grasp it. Obviously, being the quarterback, he dictates a lot of our offensive success.”
