Lahainaluna locked up a Division I spot in the upcoming First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships with a home 35-0 victory over Baldwin on Friday night.
The Lunas (8-0, 7-0), who have won 38 straight MIL games, also clinched the league’s overall championship and a second straight league D-I title in the two seasons since it moved up from D-II.
With the victory, Lahainaluna became the fifth team in Hawaii to secure a spot at states, which will be held the weekends of Nov. 11-12, Nov. 18-19 and Nov. 25-26. The other qualifiers so far are ‘Iolani (9-0, 2-0 ILH D-I) and Kapaa (3-3, 3-1 KIF) in Division I, and PAC-5 and Waimea (5-1, 3-1) in D-II (3-2, 1-2 ILH D-II).
Also on Friday, Aiea clinched the No. 2 seed in the OIA D-I playoffs with a 31-10 victory over Farrington. Na Alii (7-2, 5-1) play Kailua (3-3-1, 3-2) next weekend in the semifinals at a site to be determined, and the Govs (5-5, 3-3) visit top-seeded Waipahu.
