Mililani Edges Kahuku For OIA Open Football Title; Campbell Qualifies For States

There’s a new boss in town. At least temporarily.

No. 2 Mililani won the OIA Open Division football championship Saturday night at the Farrington High field, knocking off No. 1 Kahuku 28-21.

Quarterback Kini McMillan scored the game-winning touchdown midway through the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run. The Trojans defense held off the Red Raiders the rest of the way.

Kahuku (10-2) came into the game with a No. 8 national ranking by MaxPreps.com so it’s likely Mililani (10-1) will enter somewhere on that list this week.

The Red Raiders’ only previous loss this season was against Mater Dei of Santa Ana, California. The Trojans have won 10 in a row since a season-opening 21-14 loss to Punahou.

Mililani and Kahuku could meet again in the state final if both can win in the semifinals in two weeks (see full state tournament schedule below). The Red Raiders are two-time defending Open state champs.

Elsewhere, at the Roosevelt High field, No. 3 Campbell locked up the final state berth by topping No. 6 Kapolei 30-27 in the OIA Open third-place game.

Along with the full state tournament schedule, all the WEEK 13 scores and updated standings follow.
