Moanalua Judo Teams Continue String Of OIA Team Championships

—–

Moanalua is solidly in the driver’s seat in OIA judo.

Na Menehune captured the boys and girls team championships at Waipahu on Friday.

In the boys final match, Moanalua dropped Waipahu 87-10. In the girls championship match, Na Menehune defeated Kapolei 60-40.

It was the third OIA title in a row for the girls team and second in a row for the boys. No judo competition was held in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID-19 health concerns.

The Moanalua boys and girls judo teams got together for a championship photo.

“The OIA team titles are good accomplishments toward what we are trying to accomplish every season, which are team state titles,” Moanalua coach Brandon Maki said. “We know what our goals are, but our main focus is continued improvement with each practice as the season goes along. We are looking forward to the upcoming challenges ahead.”

The OIA judo season continues with Eastern and Western individual championships on Saturday at Pearl City and McKinley.

On the following Saturday, April 23, the OIA individual championships will be held at Leilehua.

The state championship meet is Saturday, May 7, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Both the Moanalua boys and girls teams will be going for a third straight state title at the Sheriff.
