11 New Season Best Marks Attained Last Weekend In Hawaii Track And Field

Hawaii’s track and field athletes, as expected, are getting better and better as the season progresses toward the league and state championships.

Last weekend at five separate meets, 11 athletes earned the top marks in one of the 32 competitive events so far in 2023 statewide. Here’s a rundown:

>> Baldwin senior Joseph Randolph ran 10.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the MIL Meet No. 4, taking .09 seconds off of his previous 10.83.

>> Pearl City senior Marcus Rodriguez ran 49.83 in the 400 at the Yamamoto Invitational, cutting .02 from his previous 49.85.

>> Kalani junior Yuta Cole ran 1:58.92 in the 800 at the Coach T Carnival Relay, taking 2.85 seconds off of the 2:01.77 run previously by Saint Louis junior Michael Joshua Price.

>> Kalaheo senior Gray Brady ran 9:18.33 in the 3,000 at the Yamamoto Invitational, trimming 6.37 seconds off of his previous 9:24.70.

>> Punahou senior John-Keawe Sagapolutele threw the shot put 51 feet, 5.5 inches at the Ralph Martinson Invitational — 6 inches better than his 50-11 he threw earlier this season.

>> Punahou senior Christian Kauhane‘s 22-0 in the long jump at the Martinson Invitational is 5.5 inches better than Moanalua senior Joshua Sanders’ previous leap of 21-6.5.

>>Kahuku senior Brock Fonoimoana‘s triple jump of 43-3 at the Yamamoto Invitational is 1 foot, 7 inches farther than ‘Iolani’s Asher Matsui’s previous triple jump of 41-8.

>> Kamehameha junior Kanai Gibson‘s 13-4 in the pole vault at the Martinson Invitational is 1 inch better than the previous season best of 13-3 by Keegan Gantala of Kamehameha-Maui.

>> Mililani junior Deiona Carter ran 58.46 in the 400 at the Yamamoto Invitational to surpass the 58.59 previoisly run by Radford junior Amelia Stebe.

>> Kaiser senior Valo Sapoaga threw the shot put 39 feet at the Yamamoto Invitational — 3 feet, 3.5 inches better than her previous 35-8.5 throw this season.

>> Farrington senior Finau Tatafu threw the discus 123-10.5 at the John E. Velasco Invitational — 8-3.5 more than her prevous season best of 115-7.
