The high school football national ranking sites gave Punahou some love this week after the Buff ‘N Blue nearly beat No. 14 Centennial of Corona, California, on Saturday.
Punahou led with less than a minute left before the Huskies roared back for a 50-43 victory in the Honor Bowl in San Diego.
MaxPreps.com ranked Punahou (3-1) at No. 69 and the High School Football America 300 put the Buff ‘N Blue at exactly No. 300.
Kahuku (4-0) moved up nine spots to No. 42 on the MaxPreps list, rose four places to No. 46 in the Football America 300, and jumped two notches to No. 23 in the SB Live/Sports Illustrated 25.
In addition, for the second week in a row, the Red Raiders are “on the rise” but still not ranked in the USA Today Super 25.
Kahuku has huge games coming up in successive weeks at No. 1 Mater Dei of Santa Ana, California, and at home against No. 3 St. John Bosco of Bellflower, California.
Kapaa Breaks Into Hawaii Consensus Top 10
Kapaa moved into the No. 10 spot in Hawaii’s consensus Top 10. It’s based on the Top 10s of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Cover-2 and Scoring Live along with Bedrock Sports’ choices.
Waipuhu, now 0-3 with all three losses against teams in the (upper tier) Open Division, dropped out. The Marauders are expected to contend for (middle tier) Division I honors and may find themselves back in at some point.
In another move, Kamehameha passed Saint Louis into the No. 5 spot.
