Punahou defensive lineman Kekai Burnett announced on Twitter today that he is committed to play for Oregon State.
Burnett was one of the defensive catalysts for the Buff ‘N Blue in their run to the ILH championship and a spot in the Open state championship game last season.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder, who is considered an edge rusher, is preparing for his senior high school season.
His tweet was seen by more than 6,000 within 15 minutes of posting:
All Glory to God! Blessed to say I’m committed to Oregon State University! Mahalo to all my family and coaches that helped me get to where I’m at today. Go Beavs! @Coach_Smith @LegiSuiaunoa @CoachYams @kia_nate @IkaikaAthletics @BlairAngulo @BrandonHuffman #Committed pic.twitter.com/w0PttAmG2S

Burnett is the second 2022 Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first-team selection to join the Cougars. Leonard Ah You from rival Kahuku was a senior for the Red Raiders last fall who committed to the Beavers and will serve a two-year church mission first.
During the 2022 season, 12 of Burnett’s 18 tackles were for losses and eight of them were sacks.
