Rustin Young announced his college football decision Saturday on Twitter, and the Saint Louis senior offensive lineman picked Oregon State over nine other schools.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder is one of the most highly recruited Hawaii high school players in the Class of 2024.
“First of all, I want to thank God for everything he has provided me throughout my life,” Young said in a tweeted video of the announcement. “I want to thank my mom and dad … (and) I want to say happy birthday to my grandpa. Today is his birthday. He passed last year, so I decided today would probably be the best day to do my commitment.”
Young added that his family played a big part in his decision.
“We came down to my top three schools which are UH, Utah and Oregon State,” he said. “After looking through all three schools, I have decided to further my educational and football career at Oregon State University.
“I want to say thank you to the coaches at Oregon State for accepting me into their family and everyone else for supporting me through my recruitment process.”
Friends and family gathered for the latter part of the video, all yelling, “Go Beavs.”
Aside from Oregon State and his two other finalists, Young had offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Cal, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State and Texas State.
Two others from Hawaii have commitments to the Beavers. One is Punahou senior Kekai Burnett. The other is Leonard Ah You, a Kahuku linebacker from the Class of 2023 who is going on a two year church mission.
Another Hawaii player, Saint Louis graduate Mason Tufaga, is a redshirt sophomore linebacker on the Oregon State roster.
Young was recently selected to play in the prestigious Under Armour All-American Game in January.

Hi Nick,
I known Rustin for 4 years now. As good as a football player he is, he is a greater person in life. Such a humble young man and very courteous and respectful person. Wished he would had played for UH but im happy for him wherever he went.Oregon St did a good job in recruiting him. They not only getting a great football player but a great young student. Parents did well in raising Rustin. BTW rustin is the younger brother of Ranson young former running back at St louis and played with Tua.I believe he was a senior when Tua was a junior.
Hi Alvin. Yes, he’s a good one — one of many on a loaded Saint Louis O-line
