College football recruiting is a never-ending thing in football-crazed Hawaii.
Every year, the Division I offers accumulate for some of the top players, who then weigh their decisions and choose where they want to play.
The Class of 2021 is pretty much packed up and gone to their chosen destinations.
But the Class of 2022’s decisions will be heating up, with official high school football drills slated to start sometime in July and games beginning in August.
Two recruits — Punahou senior linebacker Tevarua Tafiti — leads the way. for the Class of ’22 with 20 offers. Tausili Akana, a junior linebacker from the Class of ’23, is already up to 28 offers.

Bedrock Sports Hawaii is in the process of verifying exactly where Akana will be playing his junior season.
In various internet recruiting profiles, Akana is listed as a Kahuku player. He also played football at Wasatch High in Heber City, Utah, during the 2020 pandemic season, is a former student at Kamehameha Schools, and is the brother of two former Kamehameha standout girls volleyball players Braelyn and Keonilei Akana.
MaxPreps’ Kamehameha roster lists Akana on it for 2022, and Hawaii Prep World reported that Akana is also listed on the Skyridge High (Lehi, Utah) roter for ’22.

Usually people guess where recruits will go to college. That will likely happen in Akana’s case over the next two years, since he has those 28 offers, but it will also be interesting to find out where he’s going to play in high school now.
Among Akana’s offers are Ohio State, Michigan, USC and Washington.
Tafiti Is The 808’s Top Recruit From The Class of 2022
Punahou’s Tafiti has reeled in 20 offers, and among those schools are Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford and Wisconsin.
Laakea Kapoi, a Saint Louis tackle, has 19 offers.

Four of the nine known recruits from Hawaii in the Class of ’22 have already given oral commitments: Roosevelt linebacker Kaeo Akana and Moanalua wide receiver Keenan McCaddy to Boise State, Saint Louis offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea to Arizona, and Kaimuki quarterback Jayden Maiava to UNLV.
Bedrock Sports Hawaii is also keeping tabs on two players who, it appears, are staying on the mainland to continue their high school careers — former Campbell quarterback Blaine Hipa (Chandler High in Arizona) and former Kahuku linebacker Liona Lefau (Sammamish High in Washington).
Here’s the latest list of offers and commitments for 14 Hawaii high school athletes from the Class of ’22 and Class of ’23.
