WEEK 3 Wrap: Waimea Loses Opener; Liberty Upends No. 5 Saint Louis

Waimea was itching to finally get its season underway, but came up short 38-21 to Buckeye Union of Arizona at Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday night.

The Menehunes — who won the Division II state championship last season — did not have a game in the first two weeks of Hawaii high school football this year.

Incidentally, Buckeye Union head coach David Ellis is originally from Hawaii.

Our Kauai correspondent got the photo below from Saturday’s game.

The Buckeye Union running back was called for hurdling on this play.

All the WEEK 3 scores follow.

Among the other noteworthy games (see scoreboard graphic above for final scores):

>> In Henderson, Nevada, Liberty topped visiting Saint Louis. It’s the second loss of the season for the Crusaders.

>> Campbell and Punahou remained undefeated at 3-0 with wins by lopsided scores.

>> Kalaheo picked up its first win by downing McKinley.

>> Kamehameha-Hawaii sent a notice to its foes that its serious about competing for the BIIF D-II title by thwarting 2022 BIIF D-II champ Honokaa.
