Punahou lost for the first time this football season, barely, on Saturday night.
The Buff ‘N Blue were up by one point over Centennial (Corona, California) in the final minute, but with seven seconds to go, the Huskies’ Husan Longstreet threw the game-winning TD pass, according to HighSchool.SI.com.
The Huskies, ranked No. 14 nationally by MaxPreps.com, also converted the 2-point conversion for the 7-point final.
To give you an indication of Centennial’s status, the Huskies gave national No. 1 Mater Dei a competitive game in a 28-14 loss Aug. 18.
Punahou (3-1) — second-ranked in Hawaii behind Kahuku — took advantage of five Centennial turnovers to gain that late 1-point lead. The Buff ‘N Blue led 28-14 at one point.
The game was part of an Honor Bowl doubleheader at Cathedral Catholic in San Diego.
