TRACK AND FIELD: Hawaii Athletes Surpass 14 2023 Best Marks; See New Top 5 In All Events

The push is on.

With just a few days to go before the Island Movers/HHSAA Track and Field State Championships on Maui (Friday and Saturday), athletes continue priming for giving their best performances when it counts the most.

Over the last few weeks, the state’s top athletes have been outdoing themselves and others in their chosen events in a big way. Can they save their best for last?

Last week at various meets, including the ILH, MIL and BIIF championships, new 2023 top times or distances were achieved in 14 of the 32 disciplines.

Here are those new marks:

>> King Kekaulike’s Ja’lyn Deichert ran a 12.32 in the 100. Previous best: 12.43 by Mililani’s Deiona Carter.

>> ‘Iolani’s Mia Shepard ran a 25.33 in the 200. Previous best: 25.63 by Carter.

>> Shepard ran a 57.16 in the 400. Previous best: 57.93 by Radford’s Amelia Stebe.

>> Hilo’s Kekaihulali Halpern ran a 2:18.25 in the 800. Previous best: 2:19.89 by Halpern.

>> Kamehameha’s Tatum Moku ran a 45.41 in the 300 hurdles. Previous best: 46.35 by Mid-Pacific’s Destiny Look.

>> Moku covered 18-7 in the long jump. Previous best: 18-2 by Roosevelt’s Tiana Burgess.

>> Punahou’s Dalen Lau, Kylie Moniz, Nola Stajodinovic and Xevani Salanoa ran a 4:05.44 in the 4×400 relay. Previous best: 4:06.81 by Radford’s Camryn Smith, Georjiena Torres, Amelia Stebe and Anaisse Jabour.

>> ‘Iolani’s Brooke Naniseni threw the discus 125-1. Previous best: 123-10.5 by Farrington’s Finau Tatafu.

>> Hawaii Baptist’s Shane Kawakami-Williams ran a 48.95 in the 400. Previous best: 49.26 by Kawakami-Williams.

>> Kalani’s Yuta Cole ran a 9:14.47 in the 1,500. Previous best: 9:18.33 by Kalaheo’s Gray Brady.

>> Saint Louis’ Sytyn Lasconia Previous best: 40.53 by Kalani’s Tyler Grune.

>> Kamehameha’s Scotty Dikilato threw the shot put 53-9. Previous best: 51-5.5 by Punahou’s John-Keawe Sagapolutele.

>> Dikilato threw the discus 167-3. Previous best: 161-8 by Dikilato.

>> Saint Louis’ Josiah Fetui covered 44-4 in the triple jump. Previous best: 43-7.5 by Konawaena’s Torrance Satta-Ellis.
