Hawaii’s Jocelyn Alo hit an early home run to help Oklahoma defeat Florida State 5-1 in the Women’s College World Series championship game today in Oklahoma City in a game televised on ESPN.
Alo, a former Campbell High star and a state wrestling champion as a high school underclassman at Kahuku, was a major part of the Oklahoma offense this season. Today’s home run was her 34th of the season.

At Campbell, Alo won state player of the year honors in 2016 and ’17.

She’s been tearing it up all season for the Sooners. On Wednesday, she hit a sixth-inning home run to give Oklahoma a lead for the first time in the second game of the series against the Seminoles. And that helped the Sooners avoid elimination, thanks to an eventual 6-2 win to tie the series at 1-1 heading into today’s deciding game.
That home run on Wednesday gave the Sooners a record 159 on the season, breaking the University of Hawaii’s mark of 158 set in 2010.
Last week, Alo was named USA Softball Player of the Year, and Oklahoma finished with a sterling 56-4 record.
At the end of her ESPN postgame interview today, Alo gave a shoutout to HAWAII and her parents.
She also told the ESPN reporters; “We just came out here and did our thing. We’re a very resilient team and we’re not going to be beat twice, let along three times (in the WCWS). It was just go and punch and punch and punch. Every day, we practice these scenarios so it’s just shows that practice makes perfect.”

“She is very, very unfazed by anything,” head coach Patty Gasso told The Oklahoman in Wednesday’s game story: She Was The Spark: Jocelyn Alo’s Home Run Rallies OU Past Florida State In Game 2 Of WCWS Finals. “And she believes that she can beat any pitcher any time, any place. And she usually does. And that is Jocelyn. She’s very, very prideful of her hitting and it bleeds into our team.”

Alo plans to return to Oklahoma for her final year of eligibility in 2022.
