Castle’s Ryder Kapuwai-Mapu Is Bedrock’s Outstanding Player For WEEK 1

With time running out, Kaiser was driving deep into Castle territory, trying for a winning touchdown.

In steps Castle senior linebacker Ryder Kapuwai-Mapu for an interception of a Sean Connell pass. The Knights hold on for a 17-13 victory in a nonleague game.

For that play along with another interception earlier in the game, Kapuwai-Mapu was chosen as Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s outstanding player of WEEK 1.

Connell, a Punahou transfer, had the Cougars moving all night. He passed for 182 yards and ran for another 88. But that turnover kept Division I Castle from getting upset by D-II Kaiser.

Here is a video of Kapuwai-Mapu’s junior season highlights from Twitter:

Two others were considered for the weekly honor:

>> Punahou’s Blayne Shiraki, who had four sacks and was instrumental in thwarting Miliilani in the fourth quarter and allowing the Buff ‘N Blue to remain ahead of the Trojans for what turned out to be a 21-14 win.

>> ‘Iolani’s CJ Villanueva, who completed 27 of 28 passes (that’s not a typo) for 286 yards and four touchdowns in the Raiders’ 59-25 victory over Kaimuki in the Father Bray Memorial Classic.
