Darius Muasau: From Mililani To UH To Top Pac-12 Linebacker At UCLA

—–

Darius Muasau was an imposing linebacker at Mililani and then the University of Hawaii, and now he’s about to start his second season with the UCLA Bruins.

He had a big-time season last year, leading the 21st-ranked Bruins with 91 tackles.

And now, a writer for SuperWest Sports has given Muasau the distinction as “the” top linebacker in the Pac-12.

Of course, that’s a subjective call, but a great honor, nonetheless.

In the story that accompanies the graphic above, Jack Follman writes: “Muasau may have been the best linebacker in the conference last season and he now has one more run. It shouldn’t be a debate this year.”

Muasau was second team All-Pac 12 a year ago, and before that, was an All-Mountain West first team selection in 2020 and 2021 at UH, appearing in 37 games with 25 starts in three seasons with the Rainbow Warriors.

Muasau’s career tackles are piling up, big-time:

>> 274 (176 solo and 98 assisted) at UH
>> 91 (42 solo and 49 assisted) at UCLA
>> 365 (218 solo and 147 assisted) total

Four Other Hawaii Players On Bruins Roster

Hawaii’s UCLA football connection is strong, with four others from the 808 on the roster.

They are:

>> Wide receiver Titus Mokiao-Atimalala (from Campbell), a 6-1, 184-pound sophomore who caught 17 passes for 290 yards and a touchdown in 13 games last season

>> Offensive lineman Duke Clemens (from Punahou), a 6-3, 302-pound senior who started 13 games last season and has appeared in 39 games (32 as a starter) in four seasons

>> Wide receiver Matt Sykes (from Saint Louis), a 6-4, 200-pound junior who has caught 10 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in 30 games over three seasons

>> Defensive lineman Sitiveni Havili-Kaufusi (from Punahou), a 6-3, 282-pound junior who made seven tackles last season in 12 games played
