Since 2000, Oahu High School Football Teams Are 55-36 Vs. Mainland Opponents

—–

Since 2000, there’s a long list of games played by Oahu football teams against mainland opponents.

And three more results will be added to it this weekend:

>> Friday: Kamehameha at Liberty (Henderson, Nevada), 4 p.m. Hawaii time
>> Friday: Mililani vs. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California), at St. John Bosco field, 4:30 p.m. Hawaii time
>> Saturday: Kahuku vs. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 4 p.m. Hawaii time

To watch those games, check the various streaming services available on the Internet.

Sadly, the long list of Oahu vs. mainland games does not include those played by Neighbor Island teams. That data is not readily available.

In 91 of these games going back to 2000, Oahu’s record is 55-36, a .604 winning percentage.

And sometimes, it’s super interesting to learn how some of these matchups get scheduled.

Take the case of when Aiea and Farrington traveled to the Pacific Northwest for games early in September.

“When Aiea coach Wendell Say and I came up here a few months ago for the Nike Clinic, we were looking for possible opponents,” Governors coach Daniel Sanchez said.

It turned out they met representatives from McMinnville, Oregon, and Woodinville, Washington, schools that are about 225 miles apart.

And since McMinnville’s Grizzlies were scheduled to play Woodinville’s Falcons the weekend of Sept. 2-3, the four parties decided that the mainland schools would play the Hawaii schools instead.

Below is a list of all the results of Oahu vs. mainland games since 2000. The games include teams from Samoa and Japan, even though, technically, they are not on the mainland. Fans who notice an incorrect date or score can email Nick Abramo at [email protected].
