Six OIA Teams Will Qualify For The Football State Tournament This Weekend; Also, The Consensus Top 10

—–

Five teams are already in, but six more will join them this weekend in WEEK 12 of the Hawaii high school football season.

We’re talking about the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships that will be held on the weekends of Nov. 11-12, Nov. 18-19 and Nov. 25-26.

One team, the MIL champion Lahainaluna Lunas (8-0), became the fifth team to qualify last Friday with its Division I league-clinching 35-0 win over Baldwin.

The six teams who will become state tournament qualifiers this weekend will all be from the OIA. That league is holding its semifinals in three divisions and the winners of those six games will get in.

Those six OIA semifinal games are:

>> Open: Kapolei (6-3) at Kahuku (8-2)
>> Open: Campbell (6-2) at Mililani (6-3)

>> D-I: Farrington (5-5) at Waipahu (7-1)
>> D-I: Kailua (4-3-1) vs. Aiea (7-2), at Radford High field

>> D-II: Kaimuki (4-4) at Nanakuli (7-1)
>> D-II: Kaiser (5-3) at Pearl City (7-2)

Of the 16 total spots available in the three state tournament divisions, only five will remain open after this weekend. The possible qualifiers are listed below.

>> ILH Open champion (Punahou, Saint Louis or Kamehameha)
>> BIIF D-I champion (Konawaena or Hilo)
>> BIIF D-II champion (Kamehameha-Hawaii or Honokaa)
>> MIL D-II champion (King Kekaulike or Kamehameha-Maui)
>> OIA third place: (Semifinal losers)

Also, there was no change in order in the Consensus Top 10 from one week ago. The only slight difference is the number of points teams accrued in the math formula based on four media outlet rankings — Cover2, Hawaii Prep World, Scoring Live and Bedrock Sports Hawaii.

The Consensus Top 10 after WEEK 11 is below. After that you will find Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s Power 5s and the WEEK 12 schedule.
