WEEK 2 Update: Punahou Rolls; Kahuku Vs. Saint Louis Is A Biggie; And Much More

—–

Punahou was the only team in the ScoringLive.com top 10 in action Friday and the second-ranked Buff ‘N Blue were on fire, defeating Millikan of Long Beach 51-17 at home in the afternoon.

Check out this lead from “Millikan Fades In Loss At Punahou” on The562.org website:

“The proclaimed ‘Sons of Oahu’ showed why they’re one of the best teams on either end of the Pacific Ocean on Friday afternoon in Honolulu, as Punahou wore down the visiting Millikan Rams, racking up over 500 yards of offense in a 51-7 victory.”

The mainland regard for Punahou and other Hawaii top-echelon teams is high.

Nelson Aau, who’s listed on the Buff ‘B Blue roster as a wide receiver, switched to a running back, carrying the ball 10 times for 112 yards and three touchdowns.

Wide receiver Astin Hange was his usual hard-to-catch self, returning a kickoff 88 yards for a TD and catching three passes for 68 yards.

Here are all of Friday’s scores and Saturday’s schedule. For updated standings and more, go to Bedrock’s Hawaii High School Football Command Center.

Saint Louis At Kahuku Is A Big One

There will be more than a few eyes checking on the outcome of Saturday’s No. 5 Saint Louis at No. 1 Kahuku game. It’s certainly the biggest game of the weekend in the 808.

The last time the two teams met was in the 2021 state Open title game, with Kahuku rolling to a 49-14 win.

The Red Raiders and Crusaders didn’t play a year ago, but Saint Louis is 7-3 in the series in the last 10 games.

The two teams have combined to win every state Open title since 2015. Mililani in 2014 was the last other team to win the big prize. The Crusaders won it from 2016 to 2019, with the Red Raiders taking it in 2015, 2021 and 2022.

Leilehua Keeps It On The Ground To Improve To 2-0

Leilehua had two 100-plus yard rushers in its 21-7 win over Moanalua.

Cole Northington picked up 138 yards on 16 carries, and Camren Flemister gained 110 on 12 rushes.

The Mules got big-time performances on defense from Josh Timbre and Makuakai Ruiz with two sacks each.

Leilehua is off to a 2-0 start after going 0-7-1 in 2022.

This win was significant because the Mules are in Division I and Na Menehune are a tier higher in the Open.
