Two Hawaii hockey players — Zach Pamaylaon and Lance Hamilton — are making a name for themselves in ice hockey on the mainland.
A right wing, Pamaylaon plays for Bryn Athyn, an NCAA Division III college in Pennsylvania. A former player for the Philadelphia Revolution (2014-2017) in junior hockey, the 24-year-old Pamaylaon is going into his senior season.
In three college seasons with the Lions so far, Pamaylaon, who is listed as 5 feet 9 and 165 pounds, has 13 goals and 21 assists.
Hamilton, meanwhile, played for the Colorado Rampage 18-U AAA team in 2018-19. Last season, the 5-8, 173-pound, 19-year-old Hamilton played as a forward for Monument Hockey Academy’s 18-U team in Colorado. In the two seasons combined, he had three goals and six assists.
Pamaylaon is the third known youth player from Hawaii to move on to an NCAA college ice hockey team. Hawaii’s Spencer Zaha played eight games for Buffalo State College, an NCAA D-III team, in 1996-97, according to EliteProspects.com. Also, Hawaii’s Grant Matsushita played at least one season (2000-01) for Salve Regina (NCAA D-III) in Rhode Island.

Many Hawaii players have gone on to play at the club level in college inline or ice hockey, including Ben Barros (Lindenwood inline) and Emerson Lau (UNLV inline) and Grant Matsushima (Pepperdine ice.)
