Punahou defensive back Kilinahe Mendiola-Jensen went to Twitter at 7:10 a.m. today to announce his decision to play football at UNLV. The Rebels won out over eight other Division I FBS schools. Mendiola-Jensen, who is 6 feet 2 and 155 pounds, can play cornerback and safety.

Normally, without the COVID-19 health threat, Mendiola-Jensen would be in the middle of his senior season with the Buffanblu. He also had offers to Army, Central Michigan, Fresno State, Navy, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State and Utah State.

Mendiola-Jensen, who is also a long snapper, announced his commitment via Twitter with a video collage of his football playing days so far.

“If you work hard on your craft, take care of business in the classroom, be a good person and teammate, you will have opportunities,” Punahou coach Leonard Lau told Hawaii Prep World last week. “That’s in life, too. It’s that daily mind-set I believe Nahe possesses.
