Accuracy is one of the things that sticks out when the subject of Konawaena’s Keoki Alani comes up.
Alani was the man in charge at quarterback for the BIIF champion Wildcats on Saturday when they upended OIA champion Waipahu 38-28 in the Division I championship game of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships at the Mililani High field.
The kid, who is only a junior, completed 75 percent of his passes.
Let that sink in for a bit.
And no, it wasn’t a 3-for-4 night. He went 27-for-36 for 256 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
For that precise work in leading Konawaeana (11-1) to its first football state championship in school history, Alani is Bedrock Sports Hawaii’s outstanding player of WEEK 17.
But he didn’t save up that accuracy for the title game. Alani finished the season 250-for-350 for 3,408 yards, 50 TDs and 12 interceptions. That’s a 74 percent completion percentage.
Career-wise with one more season to go, he’s on path to be up there with Hawaii’s greats. So far in two seasons, his totals are: 398-for-603 for 5,062 yards (66 percent), 70 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.
Catching Hawaii high school career record holder for yardage, Dillon Gabriel of Mililani (9,848), would be quite a difficult task. But if Alani has another great season as a senior, he could conceivably throw for the 3,096 yards to catch the second player on the list, Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa (8,158).

This kid is special. His numbers speak for itself. 50 td’s to 12 INT’s is Colt Brennan like numbers. I hope UH notices and he has the grades.
Accuracy is off the charts, for sure. I really liked Konawaena’s intricate passing offense — and Alani put it on the money.
